Being incarcerated for as long as 10 years can definitely have an effect on your life, especially when leaving the prison. If I was incarcerated for ten years and was recently let out on parole, I feel like the biggest obstacle I would face would be acceptance back into society. For example, like finding jobs and looking for cars and houses. I feel like this would be the most challenging obstacle due to the way you can never really get away from your crime unless it was taken off your record. Most companies ask if you have ever been convicted of a crime on there applications so that must mean that it is a deciding factor, they wouldn’t want a murderer working for them even if they were the most qualified for the position. One of the only companies that I know that will hire someone no matter what their background is Walmart, which is still something but how many people can they give jobs to before they have no more positions left. There are many things that can be done to ensure the safety and success of people leaving prison but there are factors that come into place. One solution that can be done would to change the set up of prison for those people who can potentially be let on parole. So instead of recreational time they should be able to take place in programs that can show them how to successfully land a job at a interview, or to help them find a place to live before they leave prison. If there was housing provided for inmates who were let on parole to live in for at least a year to get back on their feet, this could have a positive effect on there success rate after leaving prison. Reentry back into a society for a prisoner is a lot harder than many people think, a lot of times they fall right back into the system shortly after getting out of it. By providing different programs in prison can help inmates stay out of prison for good and potentially lead them to live a successful life afterwards.
